Roger and I have always had a passion for dog and cats
and in 1988 decided to purchase Canada Farm to run our
own boarding kennels and cattery. We wanted to create an
environment where we would be happy to leave our own
pets, and yes we do leave our own dogs in the kennels if
we are away.
After all these years, I still have a very hands on
approach, splitting my time between administration,
answering the phone, collecting and delivering pets and
helping out in the kennels and cattery. I have
wonderful, caring, experienced, qualified staff but I am
always on hand for any extra help and advice when
needed. After running the kennels and cattery for many
years I am experienced with reading and dealing with cat
and dog behaviour, I am good with aggressive or nervous
dogs & cats, all forms of medical problems and
medication, all aspects of bathing & grooming and
training.

I have helped my wife run Canada Farm for over 20 years,
and have lived and worked with dogs and cats for many
more. I have attended courses at Battersea dog’s home in
London for dog behaviour. I have competed in many dog
training disciplines i.e. Obedience, Agility, and
Working trials; I have a fascination for canine
behaviour and human behaviour as I feel the relationship
between man and dog is special.
It saddens me when I see dogs re-homed because of the
owner’s lack of training and understanding. My mission
is to help as many people and dogs as I can to attain
greater understanding of each other.

I have worked at Canada Farm Boarding Kennels and
Cattery since summer 2005. I was part time to start
with, working whilst studying at Hadlow College. My
first course at Hadlow College was a ‘National Diploma
in Animal Management’ which was for 2 years. Then to
further my education I continued studying at Hadlow to
get a ‘Foundation Degree in Animal Behaviour and
Welfare’. After completing these courses I become full
time at Canada Farm.
I have attended a number of work experience placements
which include Battersea at Brands Hatch, RSPCA at
Leybourne, Chessington Zoo and Wildlife Aid in Surrey. I
also enjoyed a 2 week South African field trip around
game parks and animal sanctuaries, this was part of my
degree. I am now currently studying ‘Canine Nutrition’
which I hope to complete early 2011.
I own a Beagle called ‘Dave’ and he loves spending days
at work with me and even his 2 week holiday at Canada
Farm. I wouldn’t leave Dave anywhere else as I know he
get loads of attention and plenty of exercise.

After my GCSEs, I studied at Hadlow College for 2 years
to receive a ‘National Diploma in Animal Management’.
Following this I studied a further 2 years at Hadlow
College, in partnership with Greenwich University to
receive a foundation degree in ‘Conservation &
Biodiversity’. During these 4 years of studying I
carried out 2 years work experience at a livery stables
and then a following 2 years work experience at Wildwood
Wildlife Park. I also attended a 2 week safari around
South Africa, visiting different animal sanctuaries and
attending several lectures. I have now been working at
Canada Farm since April 2009.
I enjoy working with all the different breeds of dogs
and cats which board with us. I love the fact that at
Canada Farm we are encouraged to interact with the
animals through play and cuddles which enables us to get
to know them as individuals and helps them to settle
quickly.

Ever since I was young I’ve always wanted to work with
animals. I learnt a lot about cat and dog behaviour
growing up as my parents owned a lot of pets. I used to
go to dog training and dog shows with my parents all the
time and was fascinated by their behaviour.
When I was given the opportunity to do work experience
at Canada Farm, in 1995 when I was at school, I jumped
at the chance. After finishing school I was given a
summer job at Canada Farm and since then I have never
left. I have learnt so much more about dog and cat
behaviour and have dealt with all different kinds of
situations from aggressive dogs, bathing and grooming,
dealing with nervous dogs, fussy eaters, medication etc.
As we are a small kennel and cattery, we get to know all
our boarders by name and get to know their temperament
so that we can give the best level of care possible. I
own a blind little poodle and 3 cats and as a pet owner
I know how nerve racking it is to trust somebody else to
look after them but I can assure you that I wouldn’t
leave my pets anywhere other than Canada Farm.
